Cala d’en Massoni (Russian’s bathtub)

The Cala de Massoni is one of the most spectacular coves of the Costa Brava, which can only be accessed from our boats, this cove is located just below the Cap Roig Gardens in Calella de Palafrugell next to a natural pool known as Bañera de la Rusa. A beautiful rock bridge that is known as the Russian Bathtub, referring to the founders of the cap roig botanical garden.

The Russian bathtub honors Mrs. Woedvosky (wife of the Russian tsarist colonel who left Russia after the revolution of 1917). The couple settled on this land in 1927, where they created the famous botanical garden of Cap Roig, which we enjoy today. They lived here until their death, facing the sea, where the couple rests, the pier, on its north side, about 100 meters, there is a beautiful stone arch that leads to the bathtub. Where there is a beautiful vault, of great privacy.

The fishermen of the area saw Mrs. Woedwodsky enjoying this “natural bathtub” (they say without clothes) and that is why this inlet is known as the “Russian’s Bathtub”. Actually Mrs. Woedwodsky, named Dorothy Webster, was a Londoner of Irish origin.
